A relaxing way to see the new home of the BBC in the north "Media City UK". Cruising past Salford Quays on the Manchester Ship Canal whilst enjoying a freshly prepared luncheon.
This cruise departs from Castlefield, on the historic 250 year old Bridgewater Canal. From here you sail to Pomona Lock, giving access to the famous Manchester Ship Canal. Next you cruise 'upstream' onto The River Irwell back towards the city centre, before turning and sailing back downstream onto The Manchester Ship Canal, heading into Salford Quays. Here we get views of the spectacular waterside developments including the highlight of this cruise "Media City UK".
Sailing 'downstream' with Salford and The Lowry complex on the right and Trafford with The Imperial War Museum - North on the left you pass underneath The Lowry Footbridge. From here there are uninterrupted views of Media City UK. The next bridge you sail under is Media City Footbridge, this is a swing bridge which was built in 2011 at a cost of £11 million. On the Trafford side ITV-Granada are going to be located with the set for Coronation Street being constructed here.
Turning at Mode Wheel Lock you head back 'upstream', returning via Pomona Lock to Castlefield 3 hours later.
During this cruise we serve a set 3 course lunch which is freshly prepared and cooked in our on-board galley.
MENU Homemade soup served with a hot roll and butter. Chicken breast with a white wine sauce, duchess potatoes and fresh vegetables. Apple crumble with custard.
